Why is National Science Day celebrated? Know about
India's first Nobel Prize winning scientist
In India, National Science Day is observed on
February 28 each year. The "Raman Effect" was discovered on the same
day. The "Raman effect," named for the discovery made by Dr. CV
Raman, the country of India's first Nobel laureate scientist, is commemorated
on National Science Day.
What exactly is the Raman Effect? What causes sea
water to appear blue? The answer to this question was discovered in 1928 using
the Raman Effect. Nature, a well-known research journal, published the paper.
Following that, in 1930, Dr. CV Raman was awarded the Nobel Prize. He received
the distinction of being the first Nobel laureate from India and the Asian
continent.
The Raman Effect is a change in light wavelength that occurs when a light beam is
deflected by molecules. When a light beam passes through a dust-free,
transparent sample of a chemical compound, a small percentage of the light
emerges in directions other than the incident (incoming) beam.
Raman spectroscopy and the Raman Effect are
currently used in all branches of science and technology. Which also covers
fields like electronics, material science, and nanotechnology and etc.
