Snakes have amazing hearing ability:
University of Queensland
A recent study reported by the University of Queensland has revealed that snakes can detect and react to sound waves in the air, in addition to vibrations through the ground. Despite lacking external ears, snakes can hear through their internal ear and even their belly scales, which act as tactile receptors. The case studies investigated the group of snakes which involved 19 snakes from five genetic families of reptiles, found that the snakes' reactions to sound varied by species.
While the Woma python tended to move towards sound, taipans, brown snakes, and death adders were more likely to move away from it. According to Dr. Zdenek, these differences in response may be due to millions of years of evolutionary pressure and are likely to aid the snakes' survival and reproduction. The study highlights the need for further research into how different species of snakes navigate their environments.
